How it Began
Lttop began with the idea that discussion and decorum are not dead. The sites inception came about when that idea became a reality, a platform that could provide a voice for everyone who was willing to respectfully take part.
What it Means
Lttop is a space that provides a place for discussion, debate and dialogue. Not hostility, name calling or emotionally reactive responses. Open minded factual discussion and freedom to express how one interprets an idea or situation is what we value here.
Why it Matters
It is a far greater task to find an open discussion on the internet rather than an argument. That is why lttop matters. People need a place where they can speak, not be spoken to, to absorb and interact free of hostility and divide.
The Basics of LTTOP
Words on Fire: Our Featured Op-eds
Words on fire are what we call the wonderful Op-eds that have been submitted and published to the site. It is also the name of the page where we feature our current Op-ed submissions, as well as an archive of a few of our past submissions.
We use this term because we know your words are fire (or can start one) and we want to get them out there for you! Visit our Op-eds page to see what others have to say or visit our submissions page if you have something you want to say. We cant wait to hear it.
"Passion and position about a subject can come through very clearly without the use of; name calling, slurs, hate speak, cruelty or childish jabs . All of which are wholly unnecessary and quite distasteful when making a valid point."

The Problem:
Opinion pieces no longer clearly look different from news articles. Common terms used to differentiate between the two, such as op-ed, editorial, and letters to the editor, are unknown or misunderstood by the general public. Add to this the fact that even readers who go to a publication’s homepage are met with news and opinion stories displayed graphically at the same level, thus denoting the same level of importance. Reporters now share analysis and opinion on Social media, further confusing readers. Even if readers in the pre-internet world could clearly differentiate between news and opinion, they likely do not have the same level of critical engagement with news as it exists online today, as it is in an almost unmanageable volume, at a constant stream of availability. Which begs the question
why shouldn't you be heard?
